As a math educator for over a decade, I've learned that giving students choice in how they demonstrate mastery of their learning is an effective way to engage them. Recently, I started exploring Desmos Art and created videos on how to use this powerful tool. In this article, we'll walk you through the steps to create stunning graphing function art using Desmos.

Getting Started with Desmos Art

I began my journey with Desmos Art just a few days before recording my first video. If you're new to Desmos like I was, don't worry – I'm not an expert either! In fact, I'm still learning and recording videos as we go along. You can start by opening the links, investigating the functions, playing around with them, and getting familiar with the interface.

Step-by-Step Tutorials

One thing that frustrated me when I started was the lack of step-by-step tutorials on YouTube. That's why I decided to create my own videos, and I'm excited to share them with you! In video one, we covered lines and circles, while video four focused on piecewise functions and adding basic animations. Video five explored using max and min, as well as absolute value.

Desmos Art Projects

In addition to creating tutorial videos, I've been incorporating Desmos Art projects into my advanced function and functions courses. Last December, I gave my students the opportunity to work on DESMOS ART projects, and the results were amazing! They created stunning graphs and demonstrated a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.
